Main Reasons Of Vertigo

Meniere's Disease: One of the most important causes of ear-induced vertigo is meniere's disease. Meniere should be considered primarily for each patient applying with that trilogy of aural fullness, recurrent dizziness and tinnitus. Meniere is an inner ear disease. It is usually a disease of scrupulous, stressed people. The reason might be immune system, viral diseases, trauma history and even allergic conditions. The most important indicator of vertigo is its coming out by attacks. Even though the first attack is usually longer, vertigo lasts between 20 minutes and 24 hours. Patient feels buzzing, pressure sensation and tinnitus in his ear along with vertigo. These are accompanied by nausea and vomiting, so that patients can even apply for emergency services. The most threatening aspect of the disease in long term is causing permanent hearing loss. Hearing loss is initially seen at the time of episode, and the hearing test performed during this period is very valuable, but if adequate treatment is not provided, hearing loss may become permanent over the years.

Benign Positional Vertigo: There are some vertigo types that occur with head movements. It is diagnosed with a very simple maneuver (some movements made to the head) and the treatment is performed with very simple maneuvers (maneuvers vary according to the semicircular canal which is diseased in the inner ear). In addition to these maneuvers, patient can completely recover from complaints with rehabilitation treatments and some medications.

Vestibular Neurinitis: It is usually the post-inflammatory reaction of the equilibrium nerve in the inner ear after upper respiratory tract infection. Hearing is at normal limits and vertigo may last up to 3 weeks.

Labyrinthitis (Inner Ear Infection): It is an inflammation of whole inner ear because of microbes, and hearing loss is present besides dizziness.

Perilymph Fistula (projecting out of inner ear): There is often a trauma history. There are severe dizziness, nausea, vomiting and hearing loss after pressure increasing movements (coughing, pushing, heavy lifting). There is a risk of permanent hearing loss that should be taken action immediately and fistula site should surgically be closed up after diagnosis is finalized.

Above-mentioned diseases are the most frequent diseases causing vertigo in terms of ENT department. Apart from the ENT; Neurology Clinic, Eye Clinic, PTR Clinic, Psychiatry Clinic may have to evaluate Vertigo patients. Diagnosis and treatment must certainly be decided by a qualified physician.
